I've been waiting for this mini trip for a few months now and it's finally here!
Husband and I are heading to Austin, Texas for SXSW! It's an 8 hour drive so we have some redbulls and a playlist (below) to keep us awake and happy.

After my return I plan to put more focus on the blog again. I feel like lately I've been letting stress and lack of awesome balancing skills take away from my blogging time and content. And I miss it. These past couple of months I've sat down to start to type up something and think, I should probably be doing this other thing first. I think this mini getaway is going to help me.

How do you balance work/blog/life?

  1. Have a fun trip!! Austin is beautiful, we used to live in Texas and I have a friend who lives in Austin and just loves it there. I hope your get-a-way is just what you need to feel relaxed!! :)

  2. I've been having the same problem! I'm working on eliminating some things here and there to give me more time to do the things I truly enjoy.

  3. Have fun on your trip! I've never been to SXSW, but always wanted to go. Can't wait to hear how it is!

As for balancing everything, I believe in the old fashioned to-do list and I keep it right on my desk. I break it down into categories: a section for each shop, one for the blog, and one for general/life stuff. It's helped a TON. :-)

  6. I hope you have fun at SXSW! I've been wanting to go, but it just has never worked out. Looking forward to hearing about how it all went down!

I have a lot of difficulty balancing everything too. It's so hard to teach all day and then come home to more work. Even if it's enjoyable work, it can get hectic. So instead of burning out I schedule nights that are "no work nights." For a while, we used to dedicate Friday as a date night which also helped. Punch lists also help me focus on the tasks that need to get done, plus I always feel so accomplished when I cross things off the list. And I also think that weekend getaways help refresh me even if it means taking a day off from school. :)

  7. It's tough. My job is my blog, so for me that's easy. I feel crazy stressed some days, like for example I've been on the computer already for 10 hours today and still am not caught up. So I can only imagine doing that AND having a brick and mortar to worry about! Hopefully your trip will give you a refreshed mind!
