Meet Dexter

We have our little Dexter in our lives!

We headed 2 hours south to pick him up yesterday. We were so impressed with him in the car, he never once cried but within 20 minutes he started getting motion sickness. It was the saddest thing ever. He threw up 10 times! Poor little guy. It was dreadful, we had to pull over to give him a break and him and Riley moved to the back seat.

We finally made it home and fed him.

Here he is enjoying his first day:

Last night we put a piano bench by our bed and put the crate on top of it facing us. When we put Dexter in he started crying. I sang the "hush little baby" lullaby and put my fingers through the crate and rubbed his paw and within a minute he fell silent! Riley and I only know the mockingbird and diamond ring verse and after that we make it up, it's pretty fun. I'm glad it soothes Dexter.
He started crying at 3am so we got dressed and took him outside to potty. He woke up again at 5am but I just sang the lullaby sleepingly to him. Once again at 7am and we woke up and took him out and played with him.

Within an hour or so he took a nap in the sunlight. We are delighted he loves his bed

He also likes to lay halfway under the couch

after some play he sleeps some more and cuddles with his planet dog toy

We love our little Dexter!

  1. Aw, what a cute little guy! The first few days after I brought my toy poodle home, she slept on my chest. She was so tiny! And I think she and I both felt better knowing we were near each other.

  8. Oooooh my goodness, he is just adorable. You all look like such a happy little family. I think it's just too sweet that you sing him lullabies to help him sleep. I could use a personal lullaby-er, I had yucky dreams last night. :-(

Our Lucy gets motion sickness too. We just give her a spoonful of Karo syrup before a trip and she does just fine!

  16. How cute! Keep playing with him and he'll stop crying and love you forever. Oh better not let Rhiley play with him too much or else he will love him MORE! Trust me all the cats love me best becasue I'm the "play guy" Cheryl is sooo jealous. Don't let that happen to you.
