Lately

This past weekend we headed to Tulsa for my favorite craft show, Indie Emporium.

It was a blast meeting people who I've only met through email, blogs and instagramming. 

It's so crazy how well we know these people we've never met in person! I know some think it's a little creepy, but I personally think it's pretty cool...in a creepy way. Just kidding. 

So, of course, in typical Stela fashion I didn't plan my booth till the night before. I hope next year I get my act together and plan ahead. 

Now, I'm putting my focus towards our shop event this weekend and making my owls for the shop, Dwelling Spaces!

I hope to return to my blog regularly this week. September was such a blur, I'm not sure what the hell I did that month. October is bound to be better because October is an awesome month full of all my favorite things; including my 1 year wedding anniversary with my love!

This past weekend was the craft show I was participating in and it was a blast! I haven't done a show in a year and this made me miss doing them. I'll definitely be doing a lot more next year. It was just so fun to meet and hang out with other handmade artists, and of course, sell my stelabird goods! If you live in Tulsa and missed the show you can still find stelabird owl pillows at Dwelling Spaces. Sadly, I didn't take any pictures! But I did find this photo on Indie Emporium's facebook page...

One thing I always tend to buy at craft shows is rings! I love that they
are one of a kind and I really don't need an excuse to buy rings. I love them.

Here are some rings I got at Indie Emporium as well as some cool earrings! 
1. This fabulous rings comes from Bifftastica! I love the light blue and gold together.
2. This beauty comes from Drifter. I've been wanting a long ring like this for a while and I haven't found the perfect one, until this one! 
3. This adorable cross stitch ring comes from Amity Treasures. Jackie sells her awesome jewelry at my boutique so I've always been such a fan of her work! 
4. I switched it up and got these earrings from Sunshine and Carousels! They were too cool to pass up. Erin also sells at our boutique so I'm a big SAC fan!

It's September, which means, beginning of craft show season!! 

I started doing shows in 2007 and last year was the first time that I didn't

do any. I took a year break from Stelabird to focus completely on our boutique.

I've missed it terribly. This summer I decided it was time to get back to Stelabird so I applied for one show. I'll be doing a craft show (that was my first ever in 2007!) in Tulsa called Indie Emporium at the end of this month.

I only took a year off but it feels like I'm completely starting over.
When you take a break, the world doesn't take a break with you.
I almost feel like this is my first show again. So, these past few days
I've started prepping for the show and making owl plushies and felt birds.

I need to start brainstorming my displays, because we know how 
important those are! I'll share some craft show tips with you next week.

(mini) life Update!

I haven't blogged over here in a couple of months so I thought I would do a mini life update to get this one caught up on what I've been up to and then continue to blog regularly over here. Here we go...

Riley and I's store The Felt Bird has almost been open 2 years. Not to sound cliche but I feel like we just opened yesterday! Time flies.

I've been making my owl snugglies again and listing them in my etsy shop! It feels good to get back into it. I had a hard time doing anything other than the store when we opened it in 2009 but I'm finally putting a foot down and making time and energy for other things.

Riley & Me

We got engaged last year on March 3rd. We couldn't figure out what we wanted to do: have a wedding, elope? I think I've seen too many lame wedding movies and shows that I roll my eyes with the thought of planning/having one. But Riley brought it to my attention that it doesn't have to be like that. Now why didn't I think of that. Geez.
So we're having a small wedding. Full of DIY, handmade, riley and stela goodness.

I kinda suck at wedding planning. But we do have the date (in October) and we have the location!
Adventure Quest!


Adventure Quest is an outdoor science playground. It's the world’s largest community built outdoor playground! It's a huge wood castle! It's awesome. It's also 2 blocks north of our store; we can see it from our back door.

Here is an areal view of Adventure Quest. In the far left side of the picture where you see grass, that's their garden where our ceremony will be taking place. I love that people will have to walk through the wood castle to get back there.



I think I've covered it all.

It's been a dream of mine to open my own store; I just thought it would be something I'd do in my 30s. We realized; why wait? I can't imagine myself doing anything else!
So in April we started on our search for a building in downtown Enid. As you can see, we just now found a building! It took us 4 months, and we found a great one! We move into our building in August and we have a month to turn that baby into something awesome.

Hello friends!!
I kinda disappeared there for a week didn't I?
I finally gave in and read the twilight saga + midnight sun. And can I just say, wow, I wasn't expecting it to consume my life the way it did. No wonder why people are crazy about it. After reading the final book I didn't know what to do with myself. I was that bad. I couldn't remember what I did on a normal day!
But I'd like to think I'm back. I'm blogging again!! I haven't read any blogs either so I have a lot of catching up to do! Phew

Dexter is now 3 months! Loving life & being a puppy. I'll have to do a Dexter day on my blog sometime to give you the full scoop on our little guy!



Today I got a convo about a lost package, and I'm pretty bummed. I almost went 2 years without a lost package :( Damn postal service

Today I spent some much needed quality time in my craft room!
I set up Dexter in the middle of the room with his bed & toys






I cut out as many owls as I could from the remaining fleece...which was sadly only 4


I got some new fabric in the mail and couldn't wait to make owl pillows!

I think I've mentioned this before but I like to read the closed threads blog (threads that are closed on the etsy forums) while I eat. It's my celebrity gossip, if you will. I read it and find out who to stay away from pretty much. People are so rude to each other! I've learned to never post in the forums by reading those.
A month ago I was told someone was making owls that looked like mine and I asked the person what they thought I should do. They suggested I go on the forums and ask. I knew that was a terrible idea because I've read numerous threads on "copying" and I knew if I did that I was just giving people an opportunity to knock my work. I know calling out is BAD in the forums but I appreciate the ones that help others, such as; someone is stealing people's photos to sell things, a buyer is reselling a seller's item on ebay, someone wants you to make a custom item but shows you an item from another seller. I think it's good to know what's going on. Don't judge me! haha

I woke up today to a lovely surprise!
