Lately // October & November

Hi friends! I took an unexpected blog break for the month of October.
I've been slackin' in the personal social media side of things too. I'm very out of the loop. Today, at the shop, we were open for a special event, and I had this cool kid show me the wood mushroom that he made from my blog. He was telling me how he was wanting to make the felt donut but hasn't yet. This seriously made my day. Shoot, made my year. I was so thrilled and it got me missing my blog. It reminded me why I loved blogging so much.
I thought I would do a lately post to recap my October & November. If you follow me on instagram then these photos are nothing new, sorry! To be honest, I've been pretty bad at instagramming too! We all need a break sometimes, right?

1. It's fall!!! Which meant I had my space heater going and I was knitting lots of infinity scarves for my shop. I gotta admit, I felt like a grandma.
2. We moved. And I am so very sad about it. I LOVED that home so so much, but the owner of the home needed a place to live, and well, that was that. You know what's freaky? On my August 14th blog post, with a picture of our newly decorated living room I wrote: Thursday around midnight we decided to rearrange our living room. We woke up early Friday morning and bought a new rug and hung up our art on the walls. After living here for over a year we finally decided to decorate it! I think we've become jaded. We move into a new space, decorate it and make it perfect for us and then within a few months or so we are moving again. This current house is the place we've stayed at the longest. We probably jinxed ourselves by decorating the living room! We totally jinxed ourselves. A month and a half later we moved. We're currently saving and hoping to buy our first home soon.
3. On October 15th husband and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary! I cannot believe it's been a year! I'm so happy to be married to my best friend!
4. Husband and I helped with a fundraiser to raise money for our downtown's annual holiday event. It was Christmas Karaoke. Husband sang The Christmas Song, then after 3 glasses of wine we sang our favorite creeper song Baby, It's Cold Outside. It was our first time to do karaoke, and I gotta say, it was pretty fun!
5. I've been cuddling lots of dogs lately. If you have a dog, I'll cuddle it!
6. We've been getting ready for the holidays at our shop! We haven't been able to keep up with our online shop so we had to close that down temporarily. We've been getting lots of emails & facebook messages about ordering products, which has worked out pretty well. So, if you see anything you like on our facebook page please feel free to message us, email us at info@thefeltbird.com or call us at 580-540-8903, to place your order. We take payment over the phone or through paypal!
7. Getting ready for the holidays = getting lots of fun new items! I love this Mr. & Mrs. mug set!
8. We celebrated FIL's birthday with some bowling! I beat them all 4 games. I also broke it to my husband that I was in a bowling league when I was little (3-6th grade) and my average was 150. His mind exploded.
9. Fall means mum time!!! I bought some mums to have outside our shop, and in true Stela fashion, I didn't water them and they died. I was so sad. So, I bought some more and I'm trying to remember to water them daily. So far, so good.

1. October was coming to an end and I hadn't carved a pumpkin yet! We were planning a Halloween party with our friends and we decided we should carve pumpkins too. I love searching for the perfect pumpkin.
2. I was really excited about being at the pumpkin patch I had to take a picture as a pumpkin.
3. Our Halloween consisted of yummy food, carving pumpkins and watching It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
4. Our black and white striped shirts prevailed again this Halloween! Last year we were burglars, this year (a repeat from 2008, last election year) we were from a wonderful country. French! I'm pretty sure the black and white striped shirts will be used again next year. We're that bad at Halloween.
5. We dressed Dexter up for the Halloween party as Mr. bones! He wouldn't move. We had to coax him with lots of treats.
6. Dexter decided to join husband in singing for our shop's November First Friday event.
7. On November 6th we voted! We were expecting to wait in line since we saw our friends on facebook talk about waiting. We walked to our location, grabbed a ballot, voted and left. No waiting!
8. That evening we got dressed up and went to our friends loft for election night/fancy party! We wanted an excuse to dress up and drink champagne and eat yummy food.
9. I like this little promo card we made so I wanted to share!

That's what's been going on my friends!
What have you been up to?!
I have a lot of blog catching up to do.

Lately

This past weekend we headed to Tulsa for my favorite craft show, Indie Emporium.
It was a blast meeting people who I've only met through email, blogs and instagramming.
It's so crazy how well we know these people we've never met in person! I know some think it's a little creepy, but I personally think it's pretty cool...in a creepy way. Just kidding.
So, of course, in typical Stela fashion I didn't plan my booth till the night before. I hope next year I get my act together and plan ahead.
Now, I'm putting my focus towards our shop event this weekend and making my owls for the shop, Dwelling Spaces!
I hope to return to my blog regularly this week. September was such a blur, I'm not sure what the hell I did that month. October is bound to be better because October is an awesome month full of all my favorite things; including my 1 year wedding anniversary with my love!
Enjoy your day!

We have now entered my favorite season...FALL!!
Pumpkins, pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice latte, leaves changing colors, scarves, cardigans, football games, It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, corn mazes, pumpkin patches, holiday season is just around the corner, and.... I feel like I'm forgetting somethings! It's amazing. Fall is my favorite.
We had our first pumpkin pie the other day. It only lasted a day.

Lately, I've been brainstorming what to do with our porch and how to decorate it for fall, I've been getting ready for the craft show I have on Friday and Saturday, and we've been planning our fall First Friday event that we have at our shop. I feel like all I've done lately is planning and waiting for things to get here. It's kinda driving me crazy!

Happy fall everyone!
Do you love this season? If not, we aren't friends anymore.
Just kidding!

well, hello!

Hi friends! I don't know if you noticed but I took an unexpected blog break. I just missed one day, than two, than a week and a half.
I feel so out of touch right now because I haven't read any blogs. I glanced at my reader and I saw that so much has happened with you guys in these almost 2 weeks that I've missed! So I have lots of catching up to do this week.
Here's what I've been up to since I took a blog break:
On September 7th we celebrated our shop's 3 year anniversary
with live music, free food and drinks! It's crazy how time flies.
Last week we had some chilly, rainy, fall-like days in Oklahoma. It was nice to open our shop doors and smell the rain!
This past Saturday we walked a block from our shop to watch the Cherokee Strip Parade in our downtown. We have this parade every September to commemorate Enid's land run history. I probably should have snapped a photo of the horses and longhorns or of the man on the cool old school bike, but instead I took a picture of the emergency vehicles throwing candy because I thought it was hilarious. Do other city parades show off their emergency vehicles, trash trucks and tractors?? And then of course I took a picture of our friend representing the democrats.
After the parade they had some cool stuff going on in our downtown square but we had to leave to open our shop. After a shopper came in with her cotton candy I got really excited and left to go get mine! I love having our shop downtown where they have a lot of awesome events. I love our little city!
I wish there was cotton candy there every weekend.
I got accepted into my favorite craft show I love to do every year (since 2007)! It's Indie Emporium in Tulsa! So I've been doing lots of cutting and making these owl pillows of mine. Every year I say I'm going to plan my booth ahead of time and what not, but every year the night before the show I run around grabbing things that can hold my merchandise. I really hope that doesn't happen again because I usually start having stress dreams where I drive to the show and have nothing in my car. I'm hoping that sharing this problem here will throw my issue out into the universe and help me to actually plan ahead this year! It's next weekend.

I've missed you guys!! Can't wait to catch up on your blogs.

Here's what I've been up to lately, according to my instagram:

1. This is little dog's usual spot when he's looking out our living room window. In this photo he has serious face because I think a neighbor, a cat or squirrel was outside.
2. I'm slowing filling up my etsy shop again! Also I'm offering free shipping this week. Use the code FREESHIP at checkout!
3. I love my husband and his musical messes.
4. My current favorite snack right now is apple walnut toast. So yum!
5. I've been eyeing the shop Knot & Bow a lot lately and finally bought myself some heart stickers in pink and kraft!
6. Husband snapped this shop of Dexter and I. I was super thrilled to see we were kinda making the same face. Like mother, like son!
7. The ingredients for a perfect Sunday: coffee, cuddling with my dog, and watching some Gilmore Girls!
8. I had my first pumpkin spice latte of the season this week, even though it may have been 100 degrees that day. But, man, oh man did it taste like fall!
9. Found my sketchbook from last year and all my practice drawings for our wedding invitations!  It's so crazy our one year wedding anniversary is coming up in a month.

What have you been up to lately?

Friday, August 31, 2012

Hello my friends! I feel like I haven't been on the interwebs lately. Well, I suppose I haven't. I've been feeling moody. It's been one of those weeks where I want to hide under my warm blankets (yes I like to have 2 blankets on me), cuddle my dog and husband and eat lots of cake.

I feel like a lot of other people are also having a stupid week/day. When I've ask customers at the store how they're doing most responses have been "terrible" or something of the sort. Perhaps their funk put me in one. I'm not sure.
I sure hope you had an amazing week! If not, let's all try to have an amazing weekend.

walkin' in the rain

We were expecting to drive to work on Saturday because we saw rain in the forecast; except that when we woke up it was bright and sunny. I was very excited because I'm loving walking to work everyday. Husband checked the weather and saw that the rain would arrive around 3 (we close the shop at 4 on Saturdays). I said we could bring umbrellas just in case. I was very skeptical of the rain because it is Oklahoma. The weather says one thing and does another. And maybe also because walking in the rain sounded kinda fun. So, husband went along with me and we walked to work, despite his reluctance.
At 2 it started raining pretty hard. That lasted for about 30 minutes. I thought that was the rain that was suppose to come at 3, so we were in the clear.
As we closed our shop doors and stood outside, it started sprinkling. I was a bit giddy.
We hardly made it down the block when it started raining enough for our umbrellas. It was windy so our clothes got pretty wet.
I actually had a great time walking in the rain with my loves. It smelled amazing, it sounded amazing and we laughed the whole time.
I'm so happy my husband is a good sport. Even though he knew we'd have to walk in the rain he was okay with it because he knew it would make me happy. He's truly amazing.
Doesn't he look handsome with my black and white flower umbrella?

Husband and I are back on track with cooking at home and eating our vegetarian meals. It's been nice and tasty!
We've also started walking to work. We've lived at our current place for over a year; I'm kinda mad we haven't walked to our shop more! The route is beautiful and it's only a 15 minute walk.
I'm 10 pounds away from my goal weight so I've started calorie counting. I've actually never calorie counted before, and I kinda started by accident. I was looking for apps to just keep track of my daily weight and I found this app called Lose It that I love! I love keeping track of things and having lists. It's my thing.
So, that's what's been going on over here. Just trying to improve our health.
No biggie.

I love...

The other day, husband and I were talking about our photos we've taken over the years and how we've never had them developed. They just stay on our computers/phones. And I know we've lost a few on the way. That's 6 years of photos we've taken that we may not be able to have for years to come. And that makes me really sad.
Then I learned about postalpix, and I got really excited because it's a really easy way to have these photos of my everyday printed.
Postalpix is an app where you can select the photos you want in different sizes and have them mailed to you. I love this app so much. It was easy to use and my photos arrived really fast. For my first time I made a small order to see how the photos would turn out. (they turned out pretty fantastic)
As you can see in these photos, I chose pretty random photos to print. Such as above, my feet during the seasons (I need more shoes).
I wanted to get photos that capture a moment for us. These are the little things I'm going to love to look back at in the future. Like flowers and rainy days in Spring 2012.
I want to be able to remember the little things, like...
*the time we saw The Dark Knight, husband kept doing batman/bane impressions *the time we put all of dexter's toys on him *the time husband finally beat me at air hockey *the time we had pallets as our background to our cash wrap at the shop. (we still do! I love it so much I never want to change it)
*the time I had a mannequin hand as my ring holder and pom pom garland above our bed. (we no longer have the pom pom garland there and the mannequin hand broke.) *the time we decided to make our own chocolate covered gummy bears at home *the time I got my first sno-cone of 2012 (pink lemon sour!) *the time where I constantly drank black tea in my current favorite chevron mug.
And, of course, I had to get some photos of us in 2012.
I'm so excited to get many more printed! I think I want to put them in a photo album to keep them safe and organized. I'm such a dork. The thought of having all these photos to look back at is making me giddy!
Do you keep a photo album of your photos?
Have you tried any photo printing apps or postalpix?

Have a wonderful Monday!

What I've been up to lately, according to instagram:

1. I love black tea so so much. And I love my new chevron mug from Rock Scissor Paper! We sell these mug at our shop. Speaking of selling at our shop, we're considering just selling through email. We're so bad at updating our online shop and we are constantly shipping things for customers who email us because they saw something on our facebook page. It seems to be working more this way.
2. Our little tater pots used to hold basil but those are long gone and I've added succulents to them now.
3. I'm so jealous of these cuddles!
4. The weather here in Oklahoma has been so wonderful! Feeling a little like fall. Which means I'm jazzing it up in the music department. We've listened to a lot of Billie Holiday at the shop.
5. Dexter begging husband for belly rubs. It's pretty cute.
6. We just bought a new rug for our living room and Dexter approves!
7. Some days I decide to sport my glasses. I'm more a contacts girl. Mainly because my eyes sting if it's bright outside. What a baby.
8. Our latest thrift store find.
9. Thursday around midnight we decided to rearrange our living room.

It's the little things

Here are the things that are making me happy lately:
The other day I mentioned how I was ready for fall and taking the steps towards it by doing all the things that reminded me of my favorite season. One of those things was watching my Peanuts DVDs. It rained overnight and we woke up to 77 degree cloudy weather. It was amazing! I didn't think we'd ever get a break from our 110 degree days. I bought a chai tea latte (one of my favorite fall drinks) in celebration of the cool, fall-like day.
That evening husband also learned Charlie Brown Theme (not to be confused with the popular peanuts song Linus and Lucy) for me! I've mentioned this before but I LOVE LOVE LOVE that husband fills our home with music.
I felt my ringtone needed a little updating so I went with Dave Brubeck's
Take Five!
Take Five by The Dave Brubeck Quartet on Grooveshark
Husband is on here twice because he's awesome. I wanted to share this creepy face photo because it reminds me how lucky I am to have married my best friend! We were out eating dinner and he made this face and stared at me, so when I looked over at him it scared me and I screamed. That's right. I screamed out loud in the restaurant! I buried my face in my hands and laughed so hard I cried. It was kind of an embarrassing moment for me but it made me so happy that I have a husband that keeps me smiling and laughing.
The other night I had a dream about chocolate covered gummy bears and I haven't been able to get them out of my mind! So yesterday, I made my dreams come true and made some. A ladies gotta do what a ladies gotta do.

What's making you happy lately?

staying indoors

I hate to sound like a cry baby, but I'm totally going to sound like a cry baby.
It's hot. Death hot. I'm soooo over summer here in Oklahoma. When it's over triple digits for consecutive weeks I just have to throw in the towel and quit the outdoors. My solution? Stay indoors. Cuddle under a blanket, read a book, watch movies, do internet stuffs.
I've lived in Oklahoma my whole life and I'm still not use to this. Also, this new trend of triple digits for weeks on end just started a few years ago. Blah.
Please make me jealous and tell me you are having beautiful summer weather.
And please let me come visit you.
How's the weather in your neck of the woods?
Wow, listen to me being an old man asking about the weather and saying neck of the woods
Get off my lawn!

1. I love, love, love our rental home. We've been here for a year and a half now. It's a home in the historic district, built in 1907.
2. Our teal vintage chair is Dexter's favorite seat in the house.
3. Love this striped tray that belongs to our friends.
4. Paint colors I used to paint blocks & magnets. I shared the end result on yesterday's post
5. Our latest grocery store trip resulted in our cart looking like we had children or that we were children. Do you see those kool-aid drinks? We haven't had those since elementary school! So we got some and it makes me want a turkey sandwich with chips in it!!
6. This weekend we headed to OKC with some friends and had brunch at Cafe Do Brasil. It was absolutely delicious and mimosas were fantastic.
7. After brunch we headed to our favorite theatre to watch The Dark Knight Rises.
8. Have I mentioned to you guys before that husband is sooo good at impressions? So good! So anyways, he was talking to Dexter in his bane and his batman voice. It was hilarious and spot on!
9. We made Dexter take a picture with his watermelon toy as a hat. He was not happy about that.

Random Facts

Here are some random facts about yours truly!

1. I cannot cut in a straight line. Maybe my eyes are crooked because I also have a hard time deciding if things are straight! I cannot hang anything on our wall.

2. I bite my straw when I drink. Confusing drinks with husband is never an issue.

3. I'm a bit embarrassed to admit this, but I'm a cusser. I'm really good at keeping it under wraps at work though! There are times where I'm writing you guys comments and I type it in my comment and then I think, Ah! I can't say that! For example, let's say you posted something super cute and I'm loving it! My comment was probably originally, "shit goddamn that is too cute!"

4. I rarely make my bed. I use to make it daily...until we got Dexter 3 years ago. I'd make our bed and then Dexter would jump on the bed with a toy and start unmaking the bed and burrow around. So after awhile I gave up. I only make our bed once or twice a week now.

5. I'm a lucid dreamer. This is where you are aware that you are dreaming. I love how I can control my dreams. In comes in handy when I'm being chased or something scary. When this happens I imagine I have powers or turn invisible. I can also remember my dreams. I've mentioned before that I use to have a dream decoder book as a kid. I've always loved to fall asleep and dream!

What are some random facts about you?
Have an amazing Wednesday!

The Weekend

This weekend we were in Dallas, Texas and went to Medieval Times for my sister's 30th birthday. For those who don't know what Medieval Times is; it's a dinner theater that features staged medieval-style games, as well as horsemanship and falconry. Wanna know a little fact about me? My family goes to Medieval Times almost every year. My first time to go was in 1993! That was 19 years ago!! I died when I calculated that. I also died when I found this photo of me in 1993!
I was 8 years old in this photo!
The most memorable Medieval Times visit was last year, when I went with my mom and sister. The falcon that flies around landed on my food and spilled my drink on me!! The falcon sat there (which felt like forever) until an employee came and poked him to fly away. It was a mixture of awesome, scary and embarrassing.
Awesome, because I got to see this amazing falcon so close! Scary because I thought it might be moody and want to claw my face. And embarrassing because the falcon sat on my plate for several minutes, I was frozen in my seat laughing my nervous laugh and I felt like everyone was looking at me!
I noticed this year they had the falcon fly around before they served us our food, so maybe it happened enough times.

Alright, now it's time to share some photos after that intro!
1. Husband and I are super pumped in our green crowns! In all the years we've gone I've never been the green knight!
2. This is how I take a picture with the king.
3. Loving our little cups of strawberry daiquiris!
4. My beautiful sister celebrating her 30th!
5. My mom, my sister's step daughter, my sis & I before we took our seats.
6. My sister's reaction to getting this paper letting her know they will announce her name during the dinner.
7. This is from Riley's instagram. I loved his caption: Shit just got real.
8. Some medieval-style game action.
9. Our green Knight won his battle!!
10. And then he died shortly after. You can see him napping on the floor there.
11. I think our king was drunk.
12. And a nice backwards Texas waffle for breakfast before we head home to Oklahoma.
In attendance for my sister's birthday dinner was her husband & step kids, my mom, Riley and I. I love group photos that they only take one shot and you can't check it. It's always priceless.

If you ever get a chance to go to Medieval Times you totally should! It's such a fun time!

Behind the Scenes

I wanted to share a couple of photos with you today of some behind
the scenes from my latest Make It post.
Dexter is always around when it's time for me to take my blog photos.
He's done this since the beginning and I'm happy I finally took pictures of his silliness.
I'll set up my area for photo taking and he'll come and check out what I'm doing. He'll act all casual and people watch from his little spot in the store window.
After a few minutes of that he'll come to me and sit on my lap when I sit down.
I hate to tell him to move so I make and take photos with him on me until I have to stand up. I can be such a pushover with him sometimes. And I think he knows it.
And here he is again when I was taking pictures for yesterday's post
He'll get in the shot, but when I put the focus on him he'll look the other direction. As you can see in these photos, he won't even look at the camera.
I just want to give him a noogie sometimes.

What silly thing does your pet do?

My Friday Favorite

Throughout the week I find things on the ol' internets that I love, save them and share them on Fridays for my Friday Favorites. Well, that didn't happen this week friends. And then I thought, well I'll just take a look around and see if I love anything enough to share. But that took too long and I got tired of searching the webs and I just wanted to read my book instead of looking for something that caught my eye. (What a cry baby!)
So, here we are.
But I do have a Friday Favorite today. His name is Dexter.
My little 3 year old schnoodle.
His hair is growing back from his super short summer 'do, and his eyebrows are coming back in full force. We like to call them his sarcastic eyebrows.
He looks kinda awkward in this photo because I told him to stay. That word paralyzes dogs! It's so crazy. So, I say stay and he freezes like a statue until I say another word.
I love that little guy. He's my favorite.

What are your favorite things this week?
Have an amazing weekend!

9. It finally cooled down and rained here in Oklahoma!
10. Husband and I love playing air hockey! We each won once and left it at that.

feathers

I have a little feather collection going. If they are clean, I keep them.
I hope to use them one day for a window display, or some other display in
our shop
I may be a little crazy over feathers. Husband and I do sport one on our arms.
We got these mourning dove feather tattoos last year as our marriage tattoo.
Mourning doves are monogamous and mate for life.

Do you have any collections?
