Last night I made felt birds and listened to the song below repeatedly.
This song begs to have felt birds made to it.
Crooked Legs by The Acorn

Here are the piles of felt waiting to be transformed and taken to Dwelling Spaces and Collected Thread (a new location I will be selling at in OKC). The other stack is for my shop and for a craft show coming up in April!

Yesterday I also completed my new owl pillows that I will be listing in my shop next week.

My big plans for the weekend is finish making the felt birds and move on to the little owls.
What are you doing this weekend? Any good movies out for rent? We rented Milk and Religulous (which were both very good) last weekend.
Also did anyone see The Office last night?! What's going on?! I can't wait till next week!!!

Procrastination is my BFF

The song on repeat this week here at stelabird headquarters is.....
Paris by Friendly Fires.

It's quite awesome.

Some time ago I ordered these flower cabs

Big & beautiful. And I finally turned them into earrings!

I'm a big fan of big accessories

These are pretty comfortable to wear, they don't weigh down my ear.

and then Riley and I got a little photo booth happy

what a creep

Say hello to a new Owl snuggly! He was created last night

Also did you hear that the Commission has voted for a "Stay of Enforcement of Certain Testing and Certification Requirements of CPSIA"?! This means that they are proposing a 1 year suspension of the burden of lead testing and certification while they take more time to review the rules and plan enforcement! So we get to sell our handmade toys & other children's goodies for at least another year! I'm sure they will get it right next year and we can continue to spread the joy that is handmade.
Please go here for more info!

So some time ago I was visiting the etsy forums and I came across a thread about emailing the buyers after they've made a purchase. Do they email the buyer letting them know they've received payment and when it will ship? And buyers: do you like receiving these emails? To my surprise I saw that a few people didn't send emails and also buyers didn't like receiving them.
Personally, I love getting emails letting me know they've received my payment and when it's expected to ship. But I hardly get them! And it drives me crazy! I'm such a worry wart!
And because of this, I send emails. I thank them, I let them know when it will ship. After reading that thread I decided to try not emailing, but I couldn't! I felt so rude and disconnected. That's the difference with shopping on etsy, don't you want that personal touch? We are small independent businesses, don't we want to give personal, excellent service? I feel like I'm ranting! haha, sorry.
Anyways, please share what you do by answering the polls below.

SELLERS: Do you send an email to the buyer after they've made a purchase?
yes
no

BUYERS: Do you like receiving emails after you've made an etsy purchase?
yes
no

Have a lovely day my babies!
Time to stop procrastinating!

Happy Inauguration Day

I've been watching CNN since I woke up this morning. All was happy and well and full of hope and in one split second at the inaugural lunch it turned somber. Both Senator Edward Kennedy AND Senator Robert Byrd collapsed. The story is still unfolding.
But I'm overjoyed we have a new President.

Despite watching CNN all day I've listed some new items in my shop.

and this owl snuggly will be entering the shop later this evening...

I hope everyone is enjoying today! I'm going to watch the parade now.

I like my coffee black just like my metal

Yesterday was full of color, today it's all black.
It's gloomy outside, I can't find any brown fleece in town, the new fabric store in town is just a smaller hobby lobby fabric section, and Riley and I are wearing the same black shirt.
I was having a wonderful morning until I stepped outside and every little thing just bothered me, so I'll just stay in doors and keep to myself.
I hate those days that little things get to you.

BLACK

I'm feeling better already!
Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Save Handmade Toys

from Handmade Toy Alliance website:
In 2007, large toy manufacturers who outsource their production to China and other developing countries violated the public's trust. They were selling toys with dangerously high lead content, toys with unsafe small part, toys with improperly secured and easily swallowed small magnets, and toys made from chemicals that made kids sick. Almost every problem toy in 2007 was made in China.

The United States Congress rightly recognized that the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) lacked the authority and staffing to prevent dangerous toys from being imported into the US. So, they passed the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) in August, 2008. Among other things, the CPSIA bans lead and phthalates in toys, mandates third-party testing and certification for all toys and requires toy makers to permanently label each toy with a date and batch number.

All of these changes will be fairly easy for large, multinational toy manufacturers to comply with. Large manufacturers who make thousands of units of each toy have very little incremental cost to pay for testing and update their molds to include batch labels.

For small American, Canadian, and European toymakers and manufacturers of children's products, however, the costs of mandatory testing will likely drive them out of business.

* A toymaker, for example, who makes wooden cars in his garage in Maine to supplement his income cannot afford the $4,000 fee per toy that testing labs are charging to assure compliance with the CPSIA.
* A work at home mom in Minnesota who makes cloth diapers to sell online must choose either to violate the law or cease operations.
* A small toy retailer in Vermont who imports wooden toys from Europe, which has long had stringent toy safety standards, must now pay for testing on every toy they import.
* And even the handful of larger toy makers who still employ workers in the United States face increased costs to comply with the CPSIA, even though American-made toys had nothing to do with the toy safety problems of 2007.

The CPSIA simply forgot to exclude the class of children's goods that have earned and kept the public's trust: Toys, clothes, and accessories made in the US, Canada, and Europe. The result, unless the law is modified, is that handmade children's products will no longer be legal in the US.

It's a snuggly sunday

Today has been filled with making a wishlist on etsy, making snugglies while listening to Christmas music, and watching season 1 of 30 Rock (which I'm still watching).

Here's the finished snuggly!

It's now available in my shop!

Now I'll continue to snuggle under my blanket and watch 30 rock.
Can you tell I'm being a lazy butt?
What did you do this sunday?

worry wart

I haven't updated in a few days! It may have to do with me being in a bum mood. I'm graduating in a month and that makes me so excited. I think about it some more and think about the student loans I will have to start paying. The excitement turns to panic. Thinking about it makes me want to go straight to my sewing space and get to work, but I'm out of town visiting my family.
I have been listing more things to the shop regularly. I've added a new owl snuggly

a few felt birds

and some jewelry!

This week I plan to work on yeti ornaments and putting more owl snugglies in the shop. Any tummy (fabric) suggestions for the snugglies?
When you're worrisome and stressed, what's your stress reliever?
I have many, but a simple non-fattening one is a step back and taking a deep breathe.

you're my little fluffy one

How's everyone's Thursday so far? Feels like Friday, am I right?!

Yesterday Riley finally painted his music room! The previous renter painted that room red and red is not really Riley. It took several months because he was burnt out on painting since when we moved in in May, he painted my room and bathroom. Understandable.

Here's what it looked like before:

And here it is now:

And in more news in the world of Riley, he found his twin

And we took pictures with that twin

In other words, I'm working on brown owl snugglies today!

I also finished up the yetis and little bigfoots for the craft fair.
Look at that little army!

I've also started painting the wooden boxes I'm going to use as displays and I've been working on owl keychains.

Yep, that's my day so far! Enjoy yours and don't forget it's Thursday, not Friday!
