Lately

It's kinda crazy how many changes can happen in just over 2 1/2 months.
Here's my lately:
I'm now Assistant Director of Main Street Enid
Main Street Enid, Inc., is a 501 (c)3 non-profit whose mission is to revitalize our downtown through promotion, organization, design and economic restructuring. Main Street Enid seeks to promote the quality of life in Enid by strengthening the Downtown as the center of the community.
I absolutely love it.
A couple weeks ago I was all sorts of famous and went on Pegasys, Enid's local television station, to do Community Talk.
It consisted of me making lots of stupid faces.
Another exciting change this year is WE'RE MOVING SHOP LOCATIONS!!
We are so excited to be moving our shop into a beautiful building and a better location downtown!
read the article here
We close our current location on February 15th. (We wanted to stay open through Valentine's Day. ) After that we'll start the move over to our new space and have our Re-Grand Opening Party March 1st! SO EXCITED!!
Dexter recently went to the groomers, and with his little fro and beard he came out looking like Darth Vader. It's pretty awesome.

well, hello!

Hi friends! I don't know if you noticed but I took an unexpected blog break. I just missed one day, than two, than a week and a half.
I feel so out of touch right now because I haven't read any blogs. I glanced at my reader and I saw that so much has happened with you guys in these almost 2 weeks that I've missed! So I have lots of catching up to do this week.
Here's what I've been up to since I took a blog break:
On September 7th we celebrated our shop's 3 year anniversary
with live music, free food and drinks! It's crazy how time flies.
Last week we had some chilly, rainy, fall-like days in Oklahoma. It was nice to open our shop doors and smell the rain!
This past Saturday we walked a block from our shop to watch the Cherokee Strip Parade in our downtown. We have this parade every September to commemorate Enid's land run history. I probably should have snapped a photo of the horses and longhorns or of the man on the cool old school bike, but instead I took a picture of the emergency vehicles throwing candy because I thought it was hilarious. Do other city parades show off their emergency vehicles, trash trucks and tractors?? And then of course I took a picture of our friend representing the democrats.
After the parade they had some cool stuff going on in our downtown square but we had to leave to open our shop. After a shopper came in with her cotton candy I got really excited and left to go get mine! I love having our shop downtown where they have a lot of awesome events. I love our little city!
I wish there was cotton candy there every weekend.
I got accepted into my favorite craft show I love to do every year (since 2007)! It's Indie Emporium in Tulsa! So I've been doing lots of cutting and making these owl pillows of mine. Every year I say I'm going to plan my booth ahead of time and what not, but every year the night before the show I run around grabbing things that can hold my merchandise. I really hope that doesn't happen again because I usually start having stress dreams where I drive to the show and have nothing in my car. I'm hoping that sharing this problem here will throw my issue out into the universe and help me to actually plan ahead this year! It's next weekend.

I've missed you guys!! Can't wait to catch up on your blogs.

The Felt Bird is 3

The boutique I own with my husband, The Felt Bird, is 3 years old today!
Time flies, guys. I still can't believe this dream of mine has come true.
One of my absolute favorite memories at the shop these past 3 years is Riley proposing to me. He actually caught it on video on our computer but that will never see the light of day because I had super high squealy voice going on.

It's been a crazy, adventurous experience, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

At the shop

First Friday at our shop was a lot of fun and a big success! It's always a lot of fun so I didn't doubt that. I'm so happy our downtown has this monthly event. Just recently I was appointed First Friday coordinator so it makes me so happy to see and hear about lots of people being downtown for this. We work hard to promote this awesome event and to give the people of Enid something fun and different to do downtown.
Kayla Joy Smith of Kayla Joy Photography took some great photos of our shop Friday night and she's letting me share them with you today!

Daydreaming

It's that time of year where we are daydreaming like crazy at the shop.
When we get close to our shop anniversary (3 years on September 4th!) we always find ways to change it up. Whether it be painting the walls/floor, rearranging the entire shop or getting a new line to carry.
Right now we're thinking about getting rid of our found tables and replacing them with tables we build. And by we build, I mean husband build. And also, of course, picking up new lines. We're also thinking about hiring someone to create a new logo for The Felt Bird.
We're kinda changing things up a bit. It feels good and refreshing. And if we learned anything in these 3 years of business, it's to keep things exciting.
Don't let your customers get over you.

at the shop

I love the days where our orders come all in one day. It feels like Christmas!
I cannot wait for the holiday season!!
Buying is definitely one of my favorite parts of owning a boutique. It can be a tad stressful too, because what if we love the product but our customers don't feel the same way?! It's happened a few times, but luckily not too often.
We try to pick out products that we love and fits into two categories: original and awesome.

I couldn't think of what to blog about today. I thought to myself, what have
I been doing? We've been really busy at the shop; changing our window
for summer, searching for new brands and getting merchandise, and
thinking up new displays and a little bit of rearranging. We also just started
carrying Bombs Away's Oklahoma City Thunder shirts this week and it's
been Thunder madness at our shop. It's awesome.

If there's something I've learned in our 3 years of owning a boutique it's
to keep things exciting and fresh. It not only keeps people coming
back but it also keeps your spirits up and beats burnout.

at the shop // new window display

Last Friday, to welcome June, we started on a new window display!
We brainstormed and try to think up something we hadn't done before.
Husband started describing what popped into his head and got to work...
He started by building a wood frame and hanging that from the ceiling.
He put nails in the wood randomly and started hanging pieces of scrap
wood with twine.
I LOVE the way it turned out. And the bonus awesome thing is that it was
free! We already had all the supplies used.
Here's a night shot, because we had terrible glare on our windows
during the day. We also put in our platform that we built with
galvanized pipe and a wood top to showcase a gift item.

We'll keep this back drop (we change out our merchandise weekly) till fall!
We're already dreaming up our holiday window. That one is the most fun!

the weekend

Friday started with Riley making a new window display for the shop
I'll be sharing the completed window photos later.
Friday evening we teamed up with our business neighbor,
BlueJay's Barber Shop, to host a block party on our little block!
It rained all morning and afternoon and we crossed our fingers it would
clear up because we planned to have this event outdoors. Luckily the rain
went away and created a wonderful (yet chilly) evening!
It was so much fun and such a success. We have events like this every
First Friday of the month so if you're ever in Enid, Oklahoma please come
hang out with us!!
Saturday evening after work was filled with friends, eating kebabs...
and watching the thunder vs. spurs game! (with our friend's latest thrift store
find photobombing us)
Sunday we went to OKC, and while we were there we had brunch at our
favorite pizzeria, The Wedge.
We shared the Hang-Over pizza, which was: marinara, mozzarella,
house made sausage, pancetta, roasted potatoes, and local eggs. As well
as mimosas! So yummy.

I hope everyone had a great weekend too!
