Then & Now

(After I made this I showed this to husband and he said it looked like I died. Friends, I have not died.)

I love looking back to old blog post to see how much I have or haven't changed. Today we're looking back to 2008 (23 year old me) and seeing if there is any difference. Shall we?

2008 23 year old Stela: I was in my final year of college and I was doing Stelabird full time. 

2012 27 year old Stela: I own a gift & accessories boutique, The Felt Bird. Going on 3 years! 

Now we're going to look at Random Facts from 2008!

2008: "I'm scared of everything. Well, that may be extreme. But I do have a lot of fears."

2012: Yea...I'm still scared of a lot of things. For being a Sagittarius you would think I was super adventurous. Noooo, I think about all the bad things that could happen and I don't do anything that's risky. Well, physically risky that is. 

2008: "I'm a nail biter. Usually when I'm nervous or bored" 

2012: I'm still a nail biter! Mostly when I'm anxious. 

 2008: "I can not stop saying "meow". I say it quite often for no reason." 

2012: Ha! I've stopped saying that. Geesh. 

2008:  "I love to laugh, but who doesn't?"

2012: Wow, 2008 me really sucked at coming up with some random facts! Good thing I grew out of that, right?! Please say yes. But, anyways, yes I still love to laugh. Gah, seriously, what the hell was that? 

2008: "Fall is my favorite season" 

2012: It sure is!!! 

2008: "I'm always cold. Cardigans are my best friend."

2012: Yes! I'm always cold and cardigans are still my bff. I'm also a huge fan of blankets. They are also my bff. 

2008: "I wear color contacts. Currently Blue. I get tired with my look and I don't dye my hair, so I change my eye color. I've had green, hazel and violet."

2012: Oh man, I forgot about that! Yea, no more colorful eyeballs for me. I also still don't dye my hair. I'm cool with my dark brown hair and brown eyes now.

2008: "I'm indecisive. I've changed my major from interior design to apparel design to apparel merchandising"

2012: I'm still indecisive and I actually just used that one in a recent Random Facts post. Oops! But look at my indecisiveness paying off! I went from interior design to apparel merchandising and if I didn't change my major I may not have a shop right now. Who knows! Wooo go indecisiveness!! 

2008: "I'm allergic to bananas. Which is a damn shame because they are soooo yummy." 

2012: We've cracked the code on this one guys!! I can eat ORGANIC bananas! I also had an oral allergy to avocados and when I bought organic nothing happened!! I've been eating organic bananas and avocados like crazy without any issues. Magic. 

And there we have it friends! I haven't changed too much in these past 4 years.  

Here's something that changed:

2008 Stela didn't think she'd be able to have a dog because her and future husband were allergic.

2009 Stela found a loophole! They discovered there were dogs out there that were good for sad allergy people!

2012 Stela & Husband are living happily ever after with their 3 year old schnoodle! 

Yay changes!

Random Facts

Here are some random facts about yours truly! 

1. I cannot cut in a straight line. Maybe my eyes are crooked because I also have a hard time deciding if things are straight! I cannot hang anything on our wall. 

2. I bite my straw when I drink. Confusing drinks with husband is never an issue.

3. I'm a bit embarrassed to admit this, but I'm a cusser. I'm really good at keeping it under wraps at work though! There are times where I'm writing you guys comments and I type it in my comment and then I think, Ah! I can't say that! For example, let's say you posted something super cute and I'm loving it! My comment was probably originally, "shit goddamn that is too cute!" 

4. I rarely make my bed. I use to make it daily...until we got Dexter 3 years ago. I'd make our bed and then Dexter would jump on the bed with a toy and start unmaking the bed and burrow around. So after awhile I gave up. I only make our bed once or twice a week now. 

5. I'm a lucid dreamer. This is where you are aware that you are dreaming. I love how I can control my dreams. In comes in handy when I'm being chased or something scary. When this happens I imagine I have powers or turn invisible. I can also remember my dreams. I've mentioned before that I use to have a dream decoder book as a kid. I've always loved to fall asleep and dream!

Random Facts

Here are some random facts about yours truly! 

1. I have butter fingers. And it usually involves food. I've dropped boxes of pizza, a birthday cake, ice cream, drinks, etc. It's quite heartbreaking.

2. I have a weird habit where I can't wear my right shoe when I sew. I slip it off and put my barefoot to the pedal. 

3. I love lemons. I use to eat them with salt when I was younger. Now I just squeeze a few lemons in a bowl with sliced cucumbers and salt when I need a lemony treat.   

4. I love driving. This works out for husband because he doesn't like it. 

5. I'm indecisive. This sucks because as a business owner I'm constantly having to make decisions. I'm lucky to have husband as my business partner to help me figure it out, because I can seriously go in a circle on stuff.

Random Facts!

Here are some random facts about yours truly!

1. Husband does all the cooking. And we're both okay with that.

2. I love participating in focus groups/surveys! In college I was always signing up to take them (and got extra credit). Last year I signed up to participate in studies/focus groups/surveys and I got a call last week to do one. Yay! Getting paid to give my opinions? Don't mind if I do! 

3. Right now, I'm crazy obsessed with rice krispie treats. They are fun and easy to make. And oh so delicious to eat. 

4. I'm short (5'1)! 

5. A (non)word that makes me cringe. Ya'll. AH! My ears hurt when I hear it, and I hear it all the time living in Oklahoma.

a good morning

Confession: I don't wake up until 10am, sometimes 11. 

We open our shop at noon, so I only have enough time to get ready, drink

coffee and sometimes eat. 

I thought I would challenge myself this week to wake up at 8am everyday to

enjoy the mornings and not feel so rushed in my day. 

I tried going to bed early last night but my usual bedtime of around 1am stuck.

Luckily, we only hit the snooze once and I was able to drag myself out of bed. 

It was really nice waking up and not having to immediately do something.

Just drink coffee and enjoy my morning.

Then we were able to take that party outside on our porch! It was nice to 

enjoy our porch without battling all the bugs like we do in the evenings. 

Oh mornings, I can get use to you. 

What time do you wake up? Are you a morning person? I am if I don't have to talk to anyone (except husband) till noon. Oh wait, that doesn't make me a morning person.

1. I love spoilers! I'll wikipedia the show or movie while I'm watching it. 

When reading, I read the last page. I'm outta control guys.

2. One of my favorite movies (and soundtrack) to date is the french film Amélie. 

The story makes me happy and the colors are so beautiful!

3. I'm a big fan of sleep. I'm an even bigger fan of dreaming! 

I use to have a dream decoder book and journal as a kid. 

4. I really wish I could pull off lipstick but I feel so silly wearing it.

Random Facts!

Here are some random facts about yours truly!

1. I'm one of those pet owners that treats their pet like family. Dexter is like a son to me and I'm not ashamed of it! I love him to pieces. 

2. People we meet in our city never believe we're from Oklahoma. 

3. I'm so excited for The Hunger Games movie! One more month!!

4. Every morning I have to check my email, facebook, twitter and play solitaire (until I win) on my phone before I can get out of bed. 

5. So I've mentioned before that I have an oral allergy to bananas and avocados and it sucks because I love them. Well, one day Riley bought some organic bananas and I went ahead and ate one. Guess what...nothing happened! I was so excited! My mind was blown. The other day I found some organic avocados and decided to give those a try. Guess what! Nothing happened!! AaaaHh! 

Why am I no longer allergic? Was it the pesticides on the fruits? I'm just thrilled I can get organic now and be perfectly fine without a reaction.

random facts about Stela!

1. I'm a crier. If a movie, show, or book is just a tiny bit sad or touching I will be sitting there crying. I will sometimes cry when listening to a song. That being said, I'm definitely going to cry my eyes out at our wedding this Saturday. I know Riley will be singing me a song. I cry when he plays me a new song he wrote! Oh man, I'm in trouble.

2. My real name is Estela, named after my grandmother. 

3. I'm a Mexican-American and I don't know how to speak Spanish.This bummed out my college roommates who took spanish courses. 

4. I love beards. Especially Riley's. Riley was thinking about getting rid of his and I kinda freaked out.

5. I learned how to draw people by tracing Betty, Veronica and Archie from the Archie comics when I was a kid.

Guilty Pleasures

Today I'm sharing some of my guilty pleasures with you! 
I'm sharing the ones that I've done today. That's right, I've indulged
in most of them in one day. I need to settle down. 

1. Sugar-free Red Bull. They remind me of summer and roadtrips.
I drink too many and I love them.

2. YA books. I was a bit embarrassed about reading (and liking!) 
young adult books, because well,  I am 26. Then I found an 
awesome blog started by adults who read YA books! Yay! I'm not alone!
And Forever Young Adult gives hilarious reviews on books.  

3. It's not that I'm embarrassed to love the Charlie Brown soundtrack; 
it's more of how much I listen to it. This week has been really bad. 
I'll listen to it while I sew or browse online and it's actually playing
in my store right now. Normally we listen to indie rock at work 
but this week it's all Charlie Brown! I'm glad Riley's at the studio
this week, because he might go crazy. Good grief! 

4. Chicken Sandwich! 

5. I cannot stop playing this game Shape Shift on my iPad!

It was free so why not? You just have to clear the board

by matching colors. I'm sure it can be boring to others but

I love games like this. If I'm not reading a book (I don't feel like 

I should call it a book anymore since I read on my iPad) then I 

will play this game before I go to sleep.

It felt like a random fact day, so here is my me monday post!

3. I'm allergic to avocados & bananas, which is a huge bummer because I love them both.
4. I hate the movies where one bad thing happens after another. Like those comedies where someone is constantly getting hurt. Those really get on my nerves.
5. Nail biter. I've been trying to break the habit for years.

7. I'm getting The Sims 3 tomorrow (hopefully!) and I'm super pumped. woot woot!

Last night, was date night and a lot of fun.
We started by going to the semi new restaurant, but they had a 45 minute wait so we decided to go to place that never fails, Thai Cafe.
Later we went to glow in the dark mini golf, which was creepy. It was black lite and dingy and there were 5 others in there with us in this little room. So we strolled on through and made it in time for the movies.
We went to see Coraline, and the animation was amazing. The story felt a little empty but I felt the visual aspect made up for that.

I ran out of coffee this morning so we decided to hit up our favorite coffee place for a bagel & coffee.
